The European Parliament will hold its second plenary session in Strasbourg from 16 to 19 October.

The main topics will be:

– Resolution on developments in the Middle East
– Combating disinformation and the dissemination of illegal content in the context of the Digital Services Act and in times of conflict
– The rule of law in Malta: six years after the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and the urgent need to protect journalists
– Mental health at work place
– General Budget of the European Union for the financial year 2024
– Effectiveness of EU sanctions against Russia

On Wednesday 18 October 2023, Irena Joveva MEP will take part in a debate on the fight against disinformation and the dissemination of illegal content in the framework of the Digital Agenda Act and in times of conflict at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The event will give you an insight into the work of MEPs, the liberal political group Renew Europe and the European institutions at European level and their relevance at local level. They will present the possibilities of cooperation with the local level, the absorption of European funds and the importance of the local environment and its influence on European policy-making.

From Monday to Wednesday, 15-17 May 2023, Irena Joveva MEP will visit Poland with CULT Committee delegation to study media freedom. She will meet with representatives of the Polish government, local authorities, media, civil society, academia and cultural representatives. They will examine, among other things, recent developments in education, academic, cultural and media freedom in Poland. She will also visit the city of Lublin, which has been declared this year’s European Youth Capital.

On 27 June 2023, Irena Joveva MEP will attend the LUX Audience Award ceremony in the Plenary Hall of the European Parliament in Brussels.

Five films have been shortlisted for the LUX Audience Award 2023:

“Alcarràs” directed by Carla Simón, a Spanish-Italian co-production
Every summer, the Solé family cultivates their orchard in Alcarràs, a small village in Catalonia. This year, however, they may have harvested their last crop. New plans for the land – to cut down the peach trees and install solar panels – bring disruption to this large and close-knit family.

“Burning Days” Directed by Emin Alper, Turkish-French-German-Dutch-Greek-Croatian co-production
Emre, a young prosecutor, is sent to a small town facing a water supply crisis and political scandals. After a few tense confrontations, he is drawn in by local politics. When Emre befriends the owner of the local newspaper, rumours start to escalate the pressure on him.

‘Close’ directed by Lukas Dhont, a Belgian-French-Dutch co-production
The friendship between 13-year-old boys Leo and Remi is suddenly broken. Leo tries to understand what happened, which he tries to find out from Sophie, Remi’s mother. “Close is a film about friendship and responsibility.

“The Triangle of Sorrow” directed by Ruben Östlund, Swedish-German-French-British co-production
An uninhibited satire on roles, class and the economic value of beauty. Models Carl and Yaya go on an Instagrammable luxury cruise with super-rich passengers, such as a Russian oligarch and two British arms dealers, and a rebellious, Marxist captain. What could go wrong?

“Will-o’-the-Wisp” directed by João Pedro Rodrigues, Portuguese-French co-production
A musical romantic comedy in which Alfredo, the Crown Prince of Portugal, recounts on his deathbed his experiences as a firefighter who fell in love with his instructor Alfonso.

Irena Joveva MEP will be interviewed by the French newspaper l’Opinion on Thursday 10 August 2023, where she will discuss the recent catastrophic floods that hit Slovenia, the common European response and climate solidarity. You are invited to read.

Irena Joveva MEP will be interviewed by the Macedonian online newspaper Lokalno on Monday, 31 July 2023. The interview will focus on Macedonia’s rapprochement with the European Union and the bilateral settlement of inter-state disputes. You are invited to read.
