Youth and employment
As a Member of the European Parliament, my work focuses mainly on youth-related issues, and I am committed to facilitating the integration of young people into the labour market. In this context, I am actively campaigning against unpaid traineeships aimed at the exploitation of young people. To this end, I offer two-month paid internships in my office, for I believe that young people should be treated with respect and also rewarded appropriately for their work. I am committed to equality of opportunity in the labour market and to creating platforms that make it easier for young people to access information about opportunities in the labour market.
As Shadow Rapporteur for the Renew Europe group, I worked on the report on the European Solidarity Corps, which allows young people to volunteer or participate in projects in their own country or abroad, for the benefit of communities and people across Europe. In the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework, the Corps has been given additional weight, as for the first time in history it has its own budget of just over €1 billion, almost three times more than in the previous financial period.
I am also a member of the important Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL), which, among other things, has succeeded in pushing through a legislative proposal on guaranteeing a minimum wage in all EU Member States, enabling EU citizens to enjoy a decent standard of living. The aim of this legislation is to promote the setting of an adequate statutory minimum wage and, therefore, decent working and living conditions for employees in the Union.
Within the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), I focus on protecting the rights and safety of young people, especially online. I pay particular attention to the protection of young people’s digital rights, working to protect their personal data and to combat online violence, abuse and hate speech. I am working to strengthen legislation that protects young people from cyberbullying and extortion, and to ensure the safe use of social networks.
Ideas Transcending Boundaries
We have set up a special website for young people – Ideas Transcending Boundaries – to offer you a platform where you can express your opinions, ideas and wishes and to encourage you to actively participate in creating a better future for Slovenia, the EU and the world. We will make every effort to implement the best proposals that come forward, thus ensuring that your ideas do not merely remain a dead letter.
